This private, bilingual and internationally focused, educational institution, has served the needs of students from Kinder 3 through twelfth grade, since its foundation in 1979. A growing, dynamic school, which emphasizes the integral formation of the whole person in a highly academic context, is known for its warm, humanistic, active and enthusiastic environment, which functions within a quiet, rural setting.
Part of the reason for the school’s success today is its experience and commitment to de preschool levels. Special attention has always been given to these vital first years, and the manner in which children learn. The methodology used includes “learning by doing”, approach, the use of skill groups, individual interest and discovery centers, as well as carefully developed teaching strategies; all which encourage student participation and enhance enjoyment within the classroom. English is presented using a thematic immersion process in Kinder 4 and continues to encompass a major portion of the curriculum throughout Primary and High School, without ignoring the students’ needs and preparation within a true bilingual school.
Studies at CIB lead to the Colombian High School Diploma and the International Baccalaureate Diploma, recognized by top universities in more than 124 countries. This program allows students to specialize in a variety of subject options during the last two years, while refining important writing, thinking and organizational skills needed for higher education. International School graduates meet demanding standards which prepare them for acceptance into prestigious Universities both locally and abroad.
A balance between college track expectations in basic subject areas and the fine arts, (music: instrumental and vocal, art: painting, sculpture etc, and drama), as well as computer technology and sporting events. Students can also choose between a variety of school activities, which involve group planning, goal setting, community service and leadership.
CIB is committed to preparing students to face an ever changing world, to demonstrate tolerance and respect for different cultures, religions, languages and ideas. One way this is done is through the all school Hands On Heritage project, which offers students the opportunity to learn about four different countries each year, through a wide range of classroom activities. Special projects integrating dance, theater, Art, cultural exchanges with community members, history, economics and guest speakers, help bring the country being studied to life within the school.
It is considered essential that the student’s academic and formative training provide them with the values and means to make responsible decisions, become contributing members of their community and use the intellectual, social and critical perspective necessary to function successfully in the world where they live.
